Indian Visas

Indian Visas For Australian Residents

Australian citizens obtain one of twelve Indian Visas from the India Passport and Visa Services Centre. Six IP&VSC offices are available to process visa applications in Australia.

The Visas

Foreigners who do not work or have a residence in the country should apply for Indian Visas. The tourist visa covers casual family visits and sightseeing. People conducting business with an Indian-based company should utilize a business visa. Individuals living in Australia for two or more years are eligible for business visas. Visas for students, research, conference attendees, missionaries and medical attendants are also available. Travel for family emergencies, i.e. life or death situations, require an emergency visa.

Application Process

Per IP&VSC, do not book travel until after receiving the visa. Indian Visas process in three to five days for Australian nationals. Previous Pakistani nationals or applicants filing within one month of the expiration date of their previous visa can experience processing times of at least 45 days in length. All applications require two photos measuring 50.8 by 50.8 millimeters. Passports must be valid for a period of six months after the intended travel date. The residence listed on the visa application must be verified. Applicants under the age of 18 must have permission from both parents to travel. Other visa types require additional documentation. Submit applications by post, through a travel agent or in person. Refer to the IP&VSC website for additional visa information and office locations.

Fees

Fees for Indian Visas vary depending on the number of applications submitted, where the application is submitted and payment method. An online calculator assists applicants in determining fees. Accepted forms of payment are cash, credit card or money/postal order. Credit card transactions have a 1.5 percent service charge added. Emergency visa applications incur a A$71.05 consular fee and A$83.37 emergency processing fee.
